Why is general anesthesia not used for Cesarean Sections?
General anesthesia has a much higher rate of complications in the pregnant patient. In addition, it also exposes the baby to anesthetic drugs, which may result in the delivery of a baby that is less active and awake. Under some situations, however, your anesthesiologist may elect to perform a general anesthetic.
