There’s literally hundreds of religious sects in India. Hinduism isn’t the only one. The government of India has also officially outlawed the caste system. (“Hindi”, by the way, is the official state language of India; there are some 16 different official languages in India as well.) Personally, I’m kind of partial to the 29’ers, who will not wear shoes because one of their 29 principles is to be kind to animals and not harm them…any of them. Wearing shoes would potentially cause you to crush insects under your feet as you walk. Going barefoot reduces the risk of accidentally killing anything by stepping on it.
