Why is it important to address environmental considerations in the context of the FTAA process?
• The FTAA will shape the rules of trade and commerce in the Americas for years to come. It will provide an economic stimulus, which will encourage and accelerate investment and development throughout the Hemisphere. In order to maximize the economic and broader sustainable development benefits of the FTAA, Canada believes that the FTAA process should be accompanied by parallel commitments to promote sound environmental management and mutually-supportive economic and environmental policies.
