Why is it important to incorporate elements of nature in building design?
A building is always best when it is anchored and spirited by its context, both natural and man-made. In this case, it was a dance between the black-vanished rocks of the mountain and the manmade geometry of the earthen dam, which forms the backdrop for the building. Depending on where you are at the site, you can look back and see that the building lines up almost perfectly with the dam as moves off to the northeast. And I really only full appreciated that once the building was done, but I’m glad the building is able to stands out from its surroundings while not distracting from them. What kind of things will you be talking about at the lecture? I’ll be giving people a number of ways to look at the design of the building. At one point, I’ll be talking about it as if it were an alien spacecraft, suggesting that the entry ramps were actually extended by alien people when they first touched down.
