Why is it sometimes not necessary to start measurement at the 0-mark of the meter stick?
It is usually an advantage to not start at the 0 mark of a meter stick because the end of a meter stick can take a lot of abuse over its lifetime. Constant hitting on the end of the stick can cause damage and compression of the material at the end of the stick, causing the scale at the end of the stick to be incorrect.
