WHY IS LEISURE EDUCATION IMPORTANT?
In review, leisure is a term that describes a person s perception that he or she is free to choose to participate in meaningful, enjoyable, and satisfying experiences. The term leisure education refers to the use of comprehensive models focusing on the educational process to enhance a person’s leisure lifestyle. Leisure education programs should teach skills and enhance areas such as self-concept, social skills and inclusion in community life. THE RATIONALE FOR LEISURE EDUCATION It is stated that one of the rationales for leisure education is that it is a component of appropriate preparation for life. A lack of education and training for people with disabilities is a major constraint to developing a sense of control while participating in leisure.
