Why is modifying the source not supported?

First, we do NOT help with modifying the source. Second, if you modify the source you’ll loose all support (weird bugs, crashes, etc) because we can no longer be sure if any bug is caused by us or by you. It’s easy to make a tiny mistake in C which causes memory corruption and can screw everything up. However, you can still get support by trying to reproduce any bugs on a “clean” UnrealIRCd (that is, ircd with no modification), and then reporting it on bugs.unrealircd.org. So it’s not like you are completely cut off.. We just want you to retry things on the official version. You can imagine what our reaction is after (an) hour(s) of debugging just to find out it’s caused by your modifications! Here’s an example [IRC LOG]: I was about to watch television but then some came in #unreal-support and talked about crashes, so I thought let’s query him quickly.. I ask him explicitly if he’s using any 3rd party modules or modifications, he says no…
