Why is NAIT Expansion Important?
NAIT is Alberta´s 3rd largest post-secondary institution and has been running well over capacity for years. As Alberta´s population has grown and the demand for the kinds of graduates that NAIT produces has increased, NAIT´s capacity to produce them has not grown to any great degree. The main buildings on NAIT´s primary campus are more than 40 years old and require upgrading. While NAIT has seen the HP centre and NCAT buildings constructed on the east side of 106 street, the demand for entry at NAIT and for NAIT graduates has outpaced capacity and continues to do so at an alarming rate. Considering that NAIT is one of the only institutions offering programs for Edmonton´s trade apprentices, medical support students, business students and dozens of other technical students, Alberta´s economic growth is clearly heavily reliant on NAIT, and if we ever want to diversify our economy away from oil and gas, NAIT´s expansion is essential.
