A. The Government of Canada recognizes that larger communities tend to have more diversified economies and more capacity to absorb job losses. Through our Economic Action Plan, we are designing initiatives to provide those who have been hit hardest by the global recession with the tools they need to succeed. The SODP is just one in a series of initiatives introduced in the Economic Action Plan designed to address the short-term effects of the global economic downturn on communities across Canada, while preparing our communities for long-term growth.
