Why is RAM needed for designing computer graphics?

0

RAM is the temporary, yet very fast memory in a computer. All of the programs that are running are in the RAM, along with the graphics and music thats currently playing. Programs, music, graphics and everything is loaded from the hard drive (or local storage) into the RAM so you can use it, but only as you need it. The contents of the RAM can be constantly changing as you open programs, load things, exit programs etc. Windows “loads” itself from the hard drive and into the RAM.

Random Access Memory (RAM) memory is where everything is stored when it is running. So for example if you are running Microsoft Word this actual software is stored on your hard drive but things like the text you are typing will be stored in the RAM because the data for the text is constantly needed to be displayed. If that is confusing then think of it like this. PROCESSOR <-----> RAM <-----> HARD DRIVE The RAM is what joins the Processor to the Hard Drive because the hard drive is very slow and the Processor and RAM is extremely fast.

Everything on your computer takes RAM. If you have insufficient RAM, you run the risk of computer crashes and even software damage. Not only security products (such as active anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall) eat up memory but your operating system, active browser windows, running applications (such as Word, Gaming, Messenger, Photoshop, etc), graphic card and even malware can compete for system resources. Most software indicates the minimum amount of RAM to run its application. For example, AutoCad 2010 indicates that it needs 2GB of RAM so, in reality, you would need a minimum of 3 or 4GB of RAM since your computer needs to operate smoothly as well.
