Why is St Patrick famous?
Saint Patrick is famous for bringing Christianity to Ireland. St. Patrick is also known and famous for driving the snakes from Ireland. There are variations of the story but the legend is that he stood on a hill drove the serpents into the sea with a wooden staff. (There is another variation about luring snakes into boxes and casting them to sea). Ireland has no snakes and St. Patrick is credited for this but it could be just that it is an island where snakes never developed.
St. Patrick’s Day now is celebrated in many places throughout the world where there is any Irish population.
