Why is Testimony so important in the ceremony of Adult Baptism in a Baptist or Pentecostal Church?
I was baptised almost 14 years ago, and I invited all my friends to attend, even though none of them were church members. I was asked if I would care to give my testimony to explain how it was the Lord came into my life and I gladly accepted. Why is this done? Certainly not for the purpose of ‘putting bums on seats’ or in the hope of collecting more money! Heaven forbid! And since we are all sinners, we all need to confess our sin and repent of it, then be baptised. No, the U.K. Baptist church I attended was heavily into outreach into the community, to spread the gospel to others. A baptismal service is a wonderful way to get people into church when otherwise, they might never bother. As evidence of this, when I looked up at the balcony before I gave my testimony, I was amazed to see every single person I’d invited up there – children and all! Personal testimony is extremely powerful, and can move non-believers to ask why such a transformation has taken place. It takes courage to stand
