Why is the Boykin Spaniel as a breed not recognized by the American Kennel Club?
This question is better answered by the Boykin Spaniel Society. But as a club that feels very strongly about the unique qualities of a Boykin Spaniel, the MSBSRC sees nothing to gain in AKC affiliation. There would certainly be more expense for owners. The Boykin Spaniel was bred for one purpose – a hunting dog – and AKC affiliation some would say could corrupt this intent and lead to the Boykin in a show ring or heaven forbid in a weight pulling contest. We believe Whit Boykin would be sorely disappointed to see such activities.
