Why is the Challenge focused on molecular simulation?
In short, the focus of the Challenge is currently molecular simulation (in terms of the competition for prizes), both this time and in the first Challenge, because a majority of the members of the organizing committee believed this to be the path most likely to achieve the goals of the Challenge. Though there is a diversity of opinion within the committee concerning what requirements should be placed on allowed methods, the current format represents the consensus of discussions among the committee.
