Why is the killer whale a good predator ?
Because of their size, they had to develop successful strategies to stay alive. They are social. They live in groups just large enough to allow them hunt in packs, but small enough to have enough food where they live. They pass their hunting knowledge to next generations – mother show its young how to hunt seals right at the coast where there is loads of seals but also there is the danger of breaching the shore. A whale that flung itself on the shore while going for a seal may get stuck and never return. They can communicate with sounds. The language is fairly complicated. Even larger groups are different from each other. Some stay in one zones all of their lives, other turn to migration moving from north to south pacific periodically. This is to assure that they all will not occupy the same place when food is scare.
