Why is the magna carta important?
The Magna Carta is generally considered to be one of the most important legal documents in the history of democracy. In it, King John of England created a system where he and all future sovereigns, along with magistrates, had to function within the rule of law. Just as future generations in England were prevented from canceling the Magna Carta by passing new laws, the Constitution of the United States is also the supreme law of the land, under which all other laws are to be considered. The Mangna Carta and its importance are further discussed at www.archives.gov/exhibits/featured_documents/magna_carta/.
