Why is the NIV Bible missing a few verses?
My friend pointed out today that Acts 8:37 was missing in her Bible. I looked in mine and it’s also missing. I decided to search the verse in an online Bible and got no results. I googled it and discovered that it’s not the only missing verse in the NIV Bible. It is also missing: Matthew 17:21 Matthew 18:11 Mark 7:16 Mark 9:44 Mark 9:46 Mark 11:26 Mark 15:28 Luke 23:17 Acts 15:34 Acts 24:7 Acts 28:29 Romans 16:24 ANSWER The question really isn’t why the NIV is missing these verses, but why the KJV and other versions have these extra verses. As we have found more and more ancient manuscripts and older and older manuscripts we have noticed that these verses are not found in them. In some cases we cannot find a single manuscript containing a verse the KJV has until the 1500s! How did these extra verses make it into the Bible in the first place?
