Why is there a 2 and a 4 monoclonal antibody (mAb) kit?

The NovaPRO2 (two mAb) kit detects whether a patient carries HLA-DR4 and the “Shared Epitope/Sequence”. We believe the NovaPRO2 kit is best used as part of the patient work-up and can be a screening tool for DR4 and RA susceptibility genes. This kit provides less information than the NovaPRO4 kit. The NovaPRO4 (four mAb) kit includes the capabilities of the NovaPRO2 kit and should be used as a prognostic tool when the specialist wishes to know if their RA patient carries either the DR4Dw4 (B1*0401) or DR4Dw14 (B1*0404) genes which predispose RA severity. The presence of both genes indicates the worst possible prognosis. Please refer to the NovaPRO2 and NovaPRO4 Risk Factor Charts in “The Determination of Prognosis in Rheumatoid Arthritis”.
