Why is traveling Important?

The purpose of traveling is two-fold: (1) It allows a higher level of competition for our teams. There are only so many gyms in our immediate area, and most gyms nearby have only a handful of teams. What that means is we will likely compete against the same handful of teams all year if we do not travel outside our region. Also, cheerleading is much more developed in other regions of the country than it is in the Mountain areas, i.e. in Texas and Georgia where there are often 12-18 teams from any given gym. It is important to the development of our athletes and our program to compete against a wide variety of teams and to compete against teams with highly developed skills. Although we may not always beat the nationally known “power house” teams, we will certainly compete, and competing against those who have better skills motivates and encourages our athletes! I think that learning about various cultures and history is more important than travelling. When you travel, you get an experience that is highly subjective, but learning about cltures via books and the internet tends to be more subjective. I am also 22, and I was appalled at the level of racial tension in the US! i was at baltimore; but my friend also felt the same way when he visited Chicago. But I know that that (hopefully) is not the case all over the US.
