Why isn a reel mower good for cutting tall grass or weeds?

Due to the mechanism by which the cut is performed the reel mower is limited to cutting a maximum length of grass. For instance, if there is a 2.5 inch gap between blades on a reel, and the mower’s height is set at 2 inches, it becomes difficult for the reel to pick up grass or weeds that are over 4.5 inches. If the area is repeatedly “attacked” from different angles, eventually the vegetation will be bent, forced into the reel, and cut. Why do they say you have to cut more frequently with a reel mower? For the reasons listed above, you should not let the grass get too long before cutting. Additionally, the grass blade passed through the mower blade(s) only once before it is dropped to the ground, thus not truly “mulched” as it would be with a mulching power rotary mower. While this seems to be a bit of a pain, experts recommend cutting no more than 1/3 of a blade of grass in a single mowing. As long as this rule is followed, there will be no problem using a reel mower for every grass
