Why isn’t all the water in Sunnyvale fluoridated?

0

Although the SFPUC has chosen to fluoridate all the water they provide, including that purchased by Sunnyvale, that only accounts for approximately 45 percent of the City’s supply, all on the north part of the City. The City of Sunnyvale does not plan to fluoridate the other sources of water it uses, since the capital and operational costs associated with fluoridating the water received from Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) and from City wells is cost-prohibitive. California state law requires a water system such as the City of Sunnyvale’s or the SCVWD to fluoridate its water once funding is available. To date, funding has not been available from the state, and until it is, potable water in Sunnyvale will not be fluoridated in the entire City.
