They are for single use only, therefore not environment friendly They always make wrinkles, therefore are very uncomfortable during labour Despite what is being said they will never guarantee a sterile environment for your birth. Liners are made from PVC and processed the same way as the material used for Inflatable birthing pool. They carry manufacture’s grease and dirt like anything you buy (clothe, cooking utensil…) and should never be used without being cleaned first. The only way to avoid bacteria in your birthing pool is by using a sterilising solution as Milton or Dettol and to wipe it all over. In all my waterbirth experiences, in hospital or at home a liner was never used or recommended to use as this is simply not hospital protocol. Rented Birthing Pool companies understandably prefer using a disposable liner as their pools are being used more than once.
