One of Morecambe’s popular ‘Echoes of Art Deco’ guided walks opens the Bank Holiday weekend, setting off from Morecambe Tourist Information Centre, The Platform, at 2pm on Saturday 27 August. Peter Wade will create an evocation of Morecambe in the glorious 1930s, conjured up from its surviving Art Deco buildings, on both a grand and domestic scale. He said: ‘There’ll be saucy seaside postcards in the form of some of Eric Gill’s original designs for the seafront Midland Hotel, memories of midnight bathing in the Super Swimming Stadium and the chance to round off the afternoon with a Knickerbocker Glory in authentic Art Deco surroundings.’ As renovation work on the Grade II* listed Midland Hotel continues, the walk begins and ends with a look at the hotel’s past glories and future prospects.
