Why only stainless steel and titanium? Why not plastic, brass, silver or mother of pearl collar stays?

Plastic warps over time. A crooked collar stay will not keep your collar stiff. Brass easily tarnishes with any exposure to moisture and the discoloration can seep through your shirt collar and permanently damage it. Silver is too expensive (and does not offer any more durability or strength than titanium or stainless steel). As for mother of pearl, honestly we weren’t familiar with mother of pearl. We did some research and found that mother of pearl chips easily and is very fragile. We decided against MOP because of its impracticality, and also because frankly, we don’t like using “mother” and “stiff” in the same sentence.
