Why raise funds for Education in Kenya?
Kenya established free primary education in 2003. The number of children in school increased by 1.5 million, but there are still an estimated 1.7 million children here who do not go to school, either because they cannot afford their uniform and transport, because they have to work or simply because their schools are too far from where they live. UNICEF supports education in many ways: by providing text books and teaching materials; by facilitating teacher training to ensure quality education for children; by supporting programmes so that even more children can go to school, such as classes for working children; and by establishing mobile schools, where the teacher travels with a nomadic community.
