Why Safe Kids Week resources are using only the word lifejacket only to cover all water safety vests for Safe Kids Week?

Some experts insist on using language that distinguishes between lifejackets and PFDs. Canadian Red Cross told Safe Kids Canada that, in their many years of work in water safety, they have learned that the general public understands lifejackets and that the terms PFD or personal floatation device are not well-known. To keep our public education resources clear and simple, Safe Kids Canada decided for this campaign to use the lifejacket to mean both kinds of approved water safety vests.
