Why scientific name translated to latin language not in english?
Since no one else has answered, I’ll give it a try. I believe this practice started centuries ago when Latin and Greek were the languages of learning in the western world. Throughout western civilization all educated people spoke Latin, and often, Greek. When people started trying to approach biology more scientifically, they wanted to use names that would mean the same to all scientists. Since this started long before English became the language of international communication, Latin (and Greek) was the choice. Thus Apis mellifera would have meaning for all “educated” people, even if they had never seen one: “Apis” is Latin for “bee” and “mellifera” means “honey-bearing”.
