Why Set Family Goals?
According to the Building Strong Families program at the University of Missouri Extension, setting family goals allows the family as a group to move forward, remain balanced and support the personal goals of each family member. For example, consider a family that is consistently late. This negatively impacts everyone—parents are stressed trying to get everyone out the door quickly; children are upset because they miss important events; and everyone is embarrassed by walking into an event that has already begun. This family can set a shared goal to leave the house at a designated time in order to arrive at their events promptly, which would reduce everyone’s stress level.
