Why Should ASCE Members Support Changing ASCEs Governance?

PRO When I ask myself this question, the first thought that comes to mind is that every member should want to improve ASCE. It’s not that ASCE isn’t already a very good organization. It’s just that, having served on the Board of Direction for five of the years between 1994 and 2002, I know it could be better. ASCE is currently many organizations, and sometimes its various parts are in competition with one another. It has been brought to the attention of board members on a number of occasions that the link (communication) between ASCE on the national level and its various sections and branches is not what it should be. The objective is for ASCE members to perceive ASCE as one organization with many components. All ASCE entities, among them district and regional councils, sections, branches, younger member groups, institutes, and technical groups, should work together to form an ASCE that serves all its members and creates value for them.
