Why should underage kids not get parental consent for abortion?
Abusive parents. Ones who would beat or murder the daughter if she did become pregnant in the first place. It’s happened many times throughout history. Or religious wingnuts who would beat, disown, or murder her for having an abortion in the first place. What if the father raped the daughter? A father who has a stranglehold on the entire family? What if she was raped and her family abused her for no longer being a virgin? If a clinic has a parental consent law hanging over their head, many teens would be discouraged from seeking the other services there, like STD testing and birth control. Not to mention all the red tape that goes with parental consent laws. In many cases delaying abortion could have severe health consequences, mental or physical. For example, a teen with a history of self-harm and mental health issues could do severe damage to themselves in the days waiting for all the paperwork to go through, and a teen with an illness could die in that timespan from complications in
