Why Study Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham?
It’s not just a writing group! An MA is a serious academic undertaking which you can expect to lead on to further research. Our Creative Writing MA is designed with this in mind: it is an intellectually engaged, academically aware course in which you’ll learn as much about why we write as how we write. This is combined with a focus on your development as a writer and the way in which you can take your writing to the next level (e.g. advice on poetry publications, editing, trends in publishing). The modules are designed to allow you to engage with a wide range of genres and styles of writing. You’ll be taught by experts in the field of specific forms of writing, professional academics as well as published writers. After completing the modules your dissertation can take the form of a collection of poetry, a collection of short stories, the opening of a novel or a complete screenplay.
