Why the Hate Crimes Legislation?
Canada’s hate Crimes Legislation is unique and this presents obstacles. We do not have another country that we can look to for guidance when determining how the legislation affects society, so we are in truth learning as we apply it. This learning process can often cause confusion and misundertanding. It can also be difficult to communicate effectively between the four key groups associated, specifically: Legislators, the Judicary, Law Enforcement, and the Community. The Q Hall of Fame simply felt that the time was right to offer an opportunity for these vested groups to come together and create dialogue on how the legislation and its interpretation impacts us all.
