Why was Nicholas II a GOOD leader?
I am not among Nicholas’ fans but what I really like in his personality is that the Czar sincerely felt his responsibility for the country, a way he understood it at least. He thought that his destiny was within the country he ruled. Nicholas II abdicated when he understood at last that all what he had done before was wrong. I suspect it was extremely difficult for him but it was the only way to admit his mistakes and to say “sorry” to his people. He didn’t try to flee from Russia by all means after the revolution. He was psychologically ready to share his country’s destiny and destiny of the people who still trusted him. He was ready to pay his own highest and gruesome price. To be a good leader does not necessarily mean to be a successful leader, it also means to have courage to walk the path you chose to the end. To be a good leader also means to leave some heritage, some memory behind you that would help your people in the future. Probably that is why Nicholas II was canonized by t
