Why was poll tax introduced in 1991?
It taxed each over 18 adult living in a house rather than the house itself and it was about £200 each where I lived. So, that year, my rates should have been about £350, but they went up to £400, because I had to pay for me and my wife. However, Mr and Mrs Pikey Starney across the road had 12 adults living in their house. So they had to fork out 12 times £200 = £2400 that year. Guess what? They didn’t pay it, and neither did all the other wasters. Instead, the council gave up trying to collect it, and forced us all to pay even more the next year. A very popular tax indeed, and Maggie’s last act of betrayal of the people that bought her a ticket out of Downing Street.
