Why was the Bijou Street bridge and interchange closed completely?
During the public involvement process preceding the project, CDOT conducted public opinion polls that indicated residents and businesses overwhelmingly preferred closing the bridge completely for a shorter duration (up to 11 months) rather than extending the construction process for up to two years of restricted access, recurring closures and constant construction.
