Why were civil rights activists successful?

Civil Disobedience. Non-violence. What happened was they showed just how ridiculous the white man’s rules were. Take a look at the film of the March in Selma when a group of civil rights activists tried to cross a bridge. White law enforcement and military pushed them back with weapons and fire hoses. They were beaten and arrested simply for asserting their first amendment rights. The police and military were made to look stupid. And attitudes began to change. But, we still have a long way to go.
