Rides At Dane County Fair Inspected For Safety New Codes For Amusement Rides Went Into Effect This Year MADISON, Wis. -- As the Dane County Fair begins on Wednesday, WISC-TV looked into the safety inspection process for carnival rides. Some of the thrill rides tower into the sky, but to get them from town to town, crews have to break the rides down to fit on trailers -- and experts said that's primarily where safety concerns come in. The Wisconsin Department of Commerce inspects the rides annually. Most of the rides at the Dane County Fair at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison actually got their inspection in Stoughton a few weeks ago. State inspectors specifically check the mechanical and support structures of each ride. "If it is a violation that is life-threatening, that ride would be immediately closed down and not available to the public," said Greg Jones, with the Wisconsin Department of Commerce.
