Why were zip files temporarily removed from attachments on incoming e-mails?

In mid-August, UWM e-mail accounts were the target of thousands of e-mail messages with .zip attachments containing malicious viruses. Beginning August 12, all e-mails with .zip attachments from non-UWM addresses were blocked in order to minimize the immediate threat to the campus community. On August 18, a change was made so that .zip attachments were stripped from e-mail messages and the text of e-mails was forwarded to the recipients in a modified format.

What is your question?

*Sadly, we had to bring back ads too. Hopefully more targeted.
