Because they are not domesticated, not used to living with man, and usually man cannot meet their needs. Some are actually dangerous, others simply need more space and freedom than man can provide. Not to mention that man usually doesn't understand/cannot provide the nutrition they need in the right balance and amounts. So many reptiles kept as pets are actually ill because they're being fed too much, too little, or the wrong things, and there are so few vets who can treat "exotics" that they often die way before their time. Of Course they should be left in their natural habitat--but there's so little of it left that man hasn't altered beyond recovery, mostly due to greed.  more
