Why won our boiler (Worcester Bosch 230) pilot light ignite?

It was turned off for a few hours for a radiator to be replaced and since then we cannot get the pilot light to ignite. We have followed the instructions in the manual. We can hear pumps working and hot water demand having an effect. All the gas and water inlets appear to be open and there is no problem with gas supply elsewhere in the house.
