Yes, that's what their profession is for. Poodles and other dogs of the sort tend to get matted hair often and I'm sure whatever groomer you take him to, they would be glad to help you. ... more

Yeah, they will. I just brought my Persian cat into a groomer and his fur was completely matted all over (not my fault). They took care of it and he's looking great now! Since you have a poodle, you might want to take him to the groomers on a regular basis so they can groom him. My extended family has a miniature poodle and they get him groomed often. ... more

Yes, us groomers get our fair share of matted dogs. Although sometimes, a severely matted dog has to be turned away and the owner is told the dog needs to see a vet. For example, last week I had to tell someone to bring the dog to a vet, the back half of the dog was nothing but red raw oozing crusty skin due to extremely severe matting. If the dog is very matted but the skin is good, shouldn't be a problem. Glad to hear he has a great new home! ... more

Yes! Your dog would also like me to tell you...Just ask them for a short shave! My dog had one or two bad spots because his puppy coat was coming out. I tried to use a comb before hand to get them out...but, it didn't work well and luckly I have a pacient dog. :) So, just get him shaved short! On the next hair cut they can be a little more creative but, if it isn't matted bad they could do a litle more of a poodle cut for the face. Good luck! ps. Don't forget to get your nails cut AND opt for the oatmeal or conditioning shampoo which helps the coat dazzle the holiday company! Thanks for adopting!! ... more

Bring him to the groomer, and have them determine whether to dematt the dog, or remove the fur completely. Dematting can be very stressful for any dog, and since your fellow is coming from a shelter and still adjusting, the groomer will probably suggest you simply have the fur removed. ... more
