Will copper penny help a bee sting?

Lots of people are saying “but pennies are only 2.5% copper”. The total amount of copper in the penny seems to be irrelevant. It would seem that what matters is what is on the outside of the penny – after all, that is what’s touching the wound. Though the inside of the penny is zinc, the penny is coated with copper. I’m still skeptical of the remedy, but rebutting it with the argument: “it’s only 2.5% copper…” seems flawed to me. Also, if you have an older penny it might be 95% copper.
