Will Kevin Rudds Australian immigration policy affect Students from commonwealth nations/ America?
For decades, the rules have been exactly the same for applicants from every country and NOTHING has changed in that respect under the Rudd government. Because we have long had strict English language requirements, obviously people from English speaking countries or who have studied English or in English, have had some advantage, but the reason for the the English requirements are purely because this is an English speaking country and anyone whose English is weak is virtually unemployable. Our immigration policies are designed to attract skilled immigrants who are immediately employable in occupations in which we need workers. Any applicant from any country who meets our requirements has an equal chance of getting a visa. People from Britain, Canada and the US will receive no different treatment. Oh, and India is a Commonwealth nation, not that that makes any difference!
