Will my insurance cover my newborn?

All insurance providers cover baby for 30 days. I work for a healthcare system in the admissions department and for the newborn we always take the main insurance carriers card. Within that 30 days you have to set your newborn up with insurance either through Gateway, or through your fiance. Usually employers let you make changes like adding on a person within 30 days of the qualifying event (birth, marriage, etc.) so if your fiance does get insurance coverage before the baby is born, you can add the baby on after the birth. Also, be sure to contact Gateway and let them know about your pregnancy and impending birth so that you can get any preauthorization that would be needed. (You won’t need it for the birth itself, but you’d be suprised that some insurance carriers don’t cover certain drugs like epidurals, without it being preauthorized. Your OB Dr’s office should do some of the leg work, but it’s always good to double check so there is no surprises! Hope this helps!
