Will people suffering from pre-diabetes develop peripheral neuropathy?
You say you’ve been suffering with IGT for a while. It hasn’t been too long ago the criteria for diagnosis was changed. The reason? Because reasearch has shown that in prediabetes, borderline, IGT, whatever you chose to call it, damage was already taking place. therefore, glucose ranges were lowered in type 2 diabetes and what was formally referred to as IGT or borderline was changed to Prediabetes. Blood vessels have cells that don’t require insulin to enter them so they’re easily damaged when bombarded by high glucose levels causing damage and impairing the ability to heal. Small vessels feed nerves. So yes, it’s VERY possible, and many people are diagnosed with diabetes because of symptoms caused by damage that has been taking place over years BEFORE diabetes sets in.
