Yes. Has anyone bothered to look at the statistics? If you want clear evidence to refute an earlier claim that speed cameras are placed to catch people out rather than to reduce accidents just look at the official government policy on speed camera placement. They can only be placed where there is a ‘documented history of accident collisions which have resulted in fatal or serious injury’. I challenge anyone to find a speed camera in the UK not abiding by this rule. Secondly, look at the Swindon fixed point camera locations (obviously put at accident hotspots ^see above). All main core sites show significant reductions in fatalities and serious injuries (1). I tallied them up – 37 people died at these locations in the 3 years prior to speed camera. In the 6 years after installation, only 11 people died (count for yourself). Also, please argue this point if you find any bias in the source. Swindon council are gambling on alternate road safety measures at more widespread locations counter
