I have no idea why people think this. People think that the state will pay, they think Social Security is going to pay, they think the VA is going to pay, and I could go on and on. No one is going to pay for the funeral except them. The only way the state pays anything at all is if the person was on low income receiving cash assistance and food stamps. In this case the state (at least my state, some may vary a few dollars) will pay $700 towards a direct cremation. There cannot be a memorial service or anything else, it must be a direct cremation. There is a mountain of paperwork to fill out and they do not have to accept your application, it is at their discretion, so with that said, no one is going to foot the bill for any funeral. I’ll never understand why people think that someone else is going to pay for their funeral, because they are dreaming.
