Will travelling in a very bumpy car cause Shaken Baby Syndrome?
Don’t think so. Shaken Baby Syndrome is where you forcibly shake the baby back and forth so its head violently snaps around and consequently causes brain damage. If a baby is traveling in a car, it should be strapped down into a car seat with its head cushioned in the seat. It might get bumped around a little, but not hard enough to cause physical damage. When my daughter was three months old, we visited my husband’s aunt who lives in a rural area down a road badly in need of repaving (think potholes the size of Montana). I drove as slow as I could, but the bumps were pretty bad. My baby voiced her displeasure (as did her parents), but she was ok when we got out of the car, just really mad at having been woken from her nap by all the bumps.
