Wayne Wood, Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety, answers: We recognize the importance of cleaning and disinfecting as a means of prevention of influenza. Building Services has taken a number of steps to prepare for a possible outbreak of H1N1. Over the course of the past few months they have instituted new cleaning materials that are most effective in cleaning and disinfecting, as well as procedures consistent with Ministry of Education and public health guidelines. These processes are already in place and the workers are now undergoing training upgrades to reinforce the new procedures. In the event of a real outbreak of H1N1 in a particular area, the disinfection frequency of washrooms, kitchens and high-touch areas (doorknobs, elevator buttons, etc) will be doubled and in the event of a campus-wide situation that frequency would be tripled. In the event that H1N1-related work absences reduce the number of available cleaning staff, Building Services will strive to us
