You can have one computer connected to the internet, and the router attached to that, so that computer has to be online so the laptop can go online. Or you can connect the modem directly to the router, then either/or can be online. But it’s going to be r-e-a-l-l-y s-l-o-w. Do they have cable internet in their area? Probably a better choice.
